LAMONT, Calif. — A new state budget allocation will support safety improvements at Bear Mountain Park and other public spaces serving Lamont families, according to an October 1 announcement by State Senator Melissa Hurtado.
The official Senate release confirms $150,000 secured in California’s 2026 budget for the Lamont community.
What work is proposed?
The announcement lists better park lighting, action to mitigate unsafe conditions around public pool facilities, and removal or rehabilitation of unsafe restroom areas. The projects are intended to make public spaces safer and more welcoming for families.
It is important to distinguish funding from completed construction. The state announcement does not establish that every light, restroom or pool facility was repaired by October 31, 2026. Nor should a reader assume any closed facility has reopened without a separate parks department notice.
Why a local park matters
Lamont is a predominantly agricultural, unincorporated Kern County community. Community parks may provide important recreation, outdoor gathering space and opportunities for children who cannot easily travel to larger cities.
Residents can follow project details through Kern County and review appropriations in the state budget. Questions include where each improvement is planned, the construction schedule and which county department will maintain it once work is finished.
