LAMONT, Calif. — A street improvement project was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Lamont this October, celebrating newly constructed sidewalks that local reporting says benefit approximately 260 homes.
According to the October 27 account, the project is in the area of Di Giorgio Road and Rose Street and includes stormwater drainage improvements intended to reduce standing water and dust.
Why it took years
The project follows continued advocacy from residents and the Comité Progreso de Lamont, which pressed Kern County for improvements to roads, drainage and pedestrian access.
Community leaders said the sidewalks now provide safer places to walk and wait for school buses instead of depending on unpaved shoulders alongside traffic.
How much has been invested?
A Kern County Public Works representative reportedly described a larger county infrastructure effort in Lamont with an investment of about $55 million. That figure represents wider spending and should not be read as the construction cost of this single sidewalk project.
What remains?
Completion of one set of sidewalks does not mean every Lamont road, storm drain or school route is repaired. Residents can ask Kern County Public Works for the limits of completed phases and the timeline of remaining streets in the wider program.
